NME Radio launches iPhone app

NME Radio has launched a dedicated iPhone app today (August 3).

The app, which is available now from iTunes, allows users to listen to NME Radio via their iPhone, as well as text the studio direct.

NME Radio is also the first UK radio station to offer a direct buy (via iTunes) facility of tracks played on air. It streams content using high quality AAC+ audio coding.

Speaking of the new app, NME Radio managing and programming director Sammy Jacob said it will benefit listeners and artists.

"This app is great news for the music industry, artists and audience alike as it allows for impulse purchase and download of tracks played on the station. It is, as far as I am aware, the first UK radio station app to have such facility," he said.

He added: "Apart from providing increased exposure to new and emerging artists, it will contribute to revenues. I believe stuff like this is essential to the future of the music industry."
