BBC RADIO 1 DJ SHOT DEAD
Horrace Pinnock, AKA DJ Village, is found dying from gunshot wounds at a Wembley hotel...
Reggae DJ Horrace Pinnock, who worked under the title DJ Village, died from gunshot wounds after being found at the Plaza Hotel in Wembley at around 2.30am on Tuesday morning (November 20).
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told NME.COM this morning that the 24-year-old was taken to Central Middlesex Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival. A post mortem was carried out at Northwick Park Hospital confirming cause of death as being gunshots. No arrests have yet been made, he added, and police are keeping an open mind as to the motive for the attack.
It appears that Pinnock was shot following an altercation between up to ten black men outside the hotel. The crime is being investigated by the Serious Crime Squad, though they are co-ordinating with Operation Trident, the special task force focusing on gang feuds and black on black crime in the capital. Operation Trident are overseeing the investigation into the recent shooting at the So Solid Crew show at the Astoria Theatre.
Horrace Pinnock was an occasional DJ for the BBC station, standing in from time to time for DJ Goldfinger.
In July 1999 another Radio 1 DJ, Tim Westwood, was shot in a drive-by attack in south London. Pinnock is understood to have worked for Westwood's production company.
