50 CENT RELEASED ON BAIL

Rapper 50 CENT has been released on bail from police custody after his arrest on gun charges.

The star, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was arrested early on Tuesday morning (December 31) when New York police allegedly found two loaded guns in his car. Along with the guns, a police spokesperson said that they also recovered four bulletproof vests from the vehicle.

Though police initially arrested all five occupants of the car, prosecutors declined to charge the hired driver of the vehicle, Eliezer Cortes, according to the district attorney's office, MTV reports.

Jackson and the other members of his entourage — Timothy Bonaparte, Christopher Lloyd and Jean Bernard — were each charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Analisa Torres set Jackson's bail at $10,000, which he posted on Tuesday, according to a court clerk. Lower amounts of bail were set for the others. Jackson and his entourage were subsequently released, with the exception of Bernard, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Queens.

Jackson is due back in court today (January 3).
