Apple launch new addition to the iPod family
The iPod nano is unveiled, as well as new mobile phone technology…
APPLE have introduced the latest addition to their iPOD family - the new iPOD NANO.
The product, unveiled yesterday by Apple CEO Steve Jobs (September 7), can hold up to 1,000 songs, yet is thinner than a standard pencil and weighs just 1.5 ounces.
The iPod nano is compatible with Apple’s iTunes Music Store and also has the capacity to store up to 25,000 photos.
The digital music player is available immediately and comes in a 4GB model (1,000 songs) priced at £179 and a 2GB (500 songs) priced at £139, with the option of white or black designs for both models.
Jobs said: “iPod nano is the biggest revolution since the original iPod. iPod nano is a full-featured iPod in an impossibly small size, and it’s going to change the rules for the entire portable music market.”
Also announced yesterday by Jobs was the addition of a new device which combines the iPod music player with a mobile phone.
The phone will be able to store around 100 songs and play them randomly like the iPod Shuffle.
Developed by Motorola and dubbed Rokr, the product will first be available on the network of US mobile operator Cingular.
Available in silver, the Rokr comes with a colour screen, stereo speakers and a camera onboard.
A version of Apple’s iTunes has been developed for the phone, allowing the user to manage their songs and music is stored on a 512 megabyte memory card.
Users will be able to store 100 songs on the gadget and smart software on the handset pauses music in the event of an incoming call.
Music can only be downloaded to the phone via a USB cable to a PC.
Motorola are currently talking to other operators about future versions that can download songs wirelessly and also aim to later release models with a bigger capacity.
The Rokr will be available in the UK from September 15 and The Carphone Warehouse is advertising the phone for £209.99 for pre-pay customers and free for monthly contracts.
