Photo Gallery: The White Stripes
Jack White’s lawyers have taken legal action over the latest development in his war of words with garage man Billy Childish.
The White Stripes singer’s legal team have contacted the east London art gallery Aquarium who exhibit Childish’s work.
The gallery decided to sell a “tribute” poster commemorating the two musicians’ war of words, which depicts a fictional boxing match between ‘Bitter’ Billy Childish Vs. Jack ‘Whingy’ White.
According to The Independent, lawyers acting for The White Stripes claim that the poster violates their intellectual property rights and have also prevented internet auction site eBay from selling the items.
Gallery owner Steven Lowe said of the action: “It was just a bit of fun but these people don't seem to have a sense of humour."
He explained: “I did the poster to entertain Billy and our customers really, but then we go and get this letter. I've written to The White Stripes' management to see exactly what copyright we're infringing."
The hostilities between the two musicians kicked off when Childish slammed The White Stripes’ music in American GQ magazine saying: “I can’t listen to that stuff.”
White soon responded on the band’s official website calling Childish “a bitter garage rocker” to which Childish retorted again in an open letter, claiming “it all smacks of jealousy to me”.
