The Drifters in car crash

Pop band injured in M1 incident

Soul group The Drifters were involved in a serious car crash on the M1 in South Yorkshire this morning (March 12).

The accident happened near Rotherham when the band’s car hit another vehicle that had crashed after swerving to avoid a deer.

One member of the group, Patrick Alan, suffered head injuries and is being treated at a Rotherham hospital.

The other three members of the band Peter Lamarr, Victor Bynoe and Rohan Turney- escaped with less serious injuries.

The band were travelling to London following a gig on Sunday (March 11) night at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre.

The driver of the vehicle suffered cuts to his hands and was treated for a chest injury.

The other driver- a 21-year-old man from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, suffered airbag injuries and whiplash.

PC John Scruby of the Road Policing Group told BBC News: “It is quite astonishing that we were not dealing with a fatal collision given the nature of the incident.”
