Iggy Pop and co tear it up in Austin

A reunited Stooges made their live return at Stubbs in Austin, Texas last night (March 17).

The capacity crowd queued from 7pm to see the band, who took to the stage at around 12.15am.

Opening with ‘Loose’ the Detroit punk rockers ripped their way through five classic Stooges songs before giving way to material they recorded for their first album since 1973.

Following ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’, ‘TV Eye’, ‘1970’ and ‘Funhouse’, the shirtless Iggy Pop was in top form, with a typically high energy performance.

“Sometimes when you want to pick up a chick you don’t want to go to a dirty club full of pimps and drugs, you just wanna get in your car and trawl,” Pop said as he introduced new track ‘Trollin’.

As the set came to a close, Pop incited a stage invasion saying: “I’m inviting all the fat fuckers to dance with the asshole Stooges onstage”, resulting in a hoard of audience members storming the stage to dance to the song ‘I’m Fried’.
