London to host free anti-racism festival

Bash set for Clapham Common this summer

London will become the home for Europe’s largest anti-racist festival at Clapham Common on July 15.

Rise: London United 2007 has been backed by Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, in addition to the Trades Union Congress and National Assembly Against Racism.

Speaking of the festival, Livingstone said: "Rise: London United will be Europe's largest anti-racist festival celebrating the contribution of London's different communities to the life of the capital, in particular through the medium of popular music."

This year’s event has extra significance, as 2007 will be the bicentenary year of the abolition of transatlantic slave trade.

Past acts have included Graham Coxon and Buzzcocks.

This year's line-up is yet to be announced.
