Buena Vista Social Club man dies

Buena Vista Social Club musician Faustino Oramas died earlier today (March 27) aged 95.

The Cuban musician died of liver cancer in a hospital in Holguin, according to Cuban state radio.

Oramas was part of the Buena Vista Social Club sensation responsible for the worldwide boom in Cuban music in the late nineties.

Named after a seniors-only social club in Havana, the CD was accompanied by a documentary which contributed greatly to its success. Most of the album’s stars have already passed away.

Oramas was reportedly not sure of his real age. Documents list him as being born in 1911, although rumour had it he was 103.
