1990s play debut US show

They join Sons & Daughters for Scotland Rocks

1990s performed their debut show on US soil tonight (April 4) for a sold-out crowd at Bowery Ballroom in New York.

Following DJ sets by Mogwai’s John Cummings and Bob Kildea of Belle & Sebastian, the trio took to the stage as part of an event designed to promote tourism in Scotland.

"We’re supposed to tell you to come to Scotland," said singer Jackie McKeown, “but if we lived here we’d never want to leave.”

Clearly delighted to be playing the city, the trio charmed the usually cold New York audience with their infectiously pleasant demeanour and between-song banter.

Opening with ‘You Made Me Like It’, they made their way through a nine-song set comprised mostly of songs from their debut album ‘Cookies’, set for release in the US in July, and included a non-album track entitled ‘Jingle Bells’.

Finishing with a rendition of the album’s closing track ‘Situation’ the band then made way for headliners Sons & Daughters, who are about to use the same producer as the 1990s for their new album, British guitar hero Bernard Butler.
