Arctic Monkeys reveal unlikely influences

It's 'Hammertime' for the Sheffield foursome

Arctic Monkeys have revealed some unlikely influences on their new album ’Favourite Worst Nightmare’.

Frontman Alex Turner said the band were listening to some strange stuff while making the record.

Speaking to XFM, he said: “We listened to all sorts. Ricky Martin, 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory' - pure imagination…that’s a tune, listened to that a few times.

“And James (Ford, from Simian Mobile Disco) the producer would be playing things as well. And all things that we listened to last year like your ESG and stuff like that just for like, drums, and you’d be like: 'Fancy doing something a bit like this sound?'

Bassist Nick O’Malley added: “If you’re gonna try and create a good atmosphere, why not wear some MC Hammer parachute trousers? Comfort first of course, with a bonus aesthetic…it’s a guilty pleasure of ours.”

The album is released on April 23.
