Paul Weller and Keane turn-up for Guitar Town launch
Paul Weller 2005
Rod Stewart also appears at London exhibition
Paul Weller, Rod Stewart and Keane have launched a giant guitar exhibition in London today (June 26).
The stars all signed 10ft-high free-standing replica Gibson Les guitars at City Hall for a 10-week outdoor public art display.
Speaking about the launch Weller told NME.COM: "It's not normally my thing this but if I can do something for charity then great. I quite like my guitar that's been designed although I probably would have made it more red and yellow. (laughs) I like captain (James) Blunt's guitar that's fucking brilliant."
As previously reported, there are 30 hand-painted replica guitars on display including a smashed Razorlight guitar and a Gallows guitar featuring an arm bursting out of its side. Other designs include those for Oasis, Kasabian, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs and Dirty Pretty Things.
The replicas, including an additional 30 hand-painted regular Gibson SG guitars on display within The O2, will be available to view for 10 weeks, with a charity auction planned for later this year.
All funds raised from the sale of the guitars will benefit Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, The Prince's Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust.
Keane singer Tom Chaplin said: "It's fantastic. It's a great thing to be a part of and I know I'm biased but I think our guitar is the best one here. It's fantastic."
Drummer Richard Hughes added: "We've been involved in the Teenage Cancer Trust for quite a long time. Its very cool to do something for them again and obviously Nordoff Robbins as well because they do amazing stuff for kids."
