SOUL COFFIN - BAND LAID TO REST

The New York rockers go their separate ways after eight years together...

New York four-piece Soul Coughing have decided to split after eight years and three albums together.

Soul Coughing made a statement yesterday (March 21) via their website, www.wbr.com/soulcough/ which said the band, who formed in 1992 "have amicably decided to go separate ways". The statement goes on to reveal that all four band members have "collectively decided to refocus their attentions onto other projects", and that this is "not an end, but rather a new beginning for all".

The ex-members of Soul Coughing have been working independently for some time. Founder member and vocalist M. Doughty has already started work on his debut solo album after completing work on a single with American House outfit BT. Mark De Gli Antoni, who provided samples and keyboards for the band is now working on a film soundtrack, while bassist Sebastian Steinberg recently went on tour with Beth Orton.

Soul Coughing are most well known in the UK for their 1996 single 'Super Bon Bon' and accompanying album 'Irresistible Bliss'. Their final album, 'El Oso', was released in 1998, and their last UK performance was at the Cambridge Junction in November of that year.
