Arctic Monkeys dismiss Live Earth Arctic Monkeys Tickets

Matt Helders says it'd be 'hypocritical' to play

Arctic Monkeys have attacked this weekend's (July 7) Live Earth, claiming that taking part in the event is “hypocritical”.

The event sees 150, acts, including the likes of Bloc Party, Razorlight, Kasabian, play at seven shows around the globe.

The concerts are designed to raise awareness of climate change, but the band’s drummer Matt Helder believes the energy needed to power most of the acts' sets is actually against the cause's aims.

“We're using enough power for ten houses just for lighting," he explained to AFP. "It'd be a bit hypocritical [if we played Live Earth].”

“We're always jetting off on aeroplanes” added bassist Nick O’Malley.

Meanwhile the Sheffield band release their new single, ‘Fluorescent Adolescent’ on Monday (July 9).
