BLUR, JARVIS, ORBITAL IN MELTDOWN! Orbital Tickets
The stars line up for London's annual off-the-wall festival, this year organised by [a]Scott Walker[/a] ...
Blur, Orbital, JARVIS COCKER, SMOG and JIM O' ROURKE have all been confirmed to play at this year's MELTDOWN FESTIVAL.
The festival, which is being organised this year by Scott Walker, is held at London's Royal Festival Hall from June 17-July 2. Already confirmed to play this year are Radiohead, who will be making their first UK live performance in over two years.
Blur headline the final night of the festival on July 2 and are interrupting a self-imposed 18 month break to play the gig. The band have a history with the event - in 1998 vocalist Damon Albarn and guitarist Graham Coxon. In 1998 they teamed up with '60s American duo The Silver Apples for a performance at John Peel's Meltdown.
Jarvis Cocker is to organise a night called 'Jarvis Cocker and Friends' on June 24. A spokesperson for Pulp told nme.com that the night would not be a Pulp gig in the traditional sense of the word, but nothing else has yet been finalised for the night.
Cocker too is no stranger to Meltdown. At last year's festival, which was organised by Nick Cave, Jarvis was involved in the 'Hal Willner's Harry Smith Project', where the Pulp vocalist, along with other musicians including Beth Orton and Brian Ferry performed American folk music.
Orbital and Scott Walker will both be providing new musical scores for two 'Dance Project' nights on June 17-18, while Smog and Jim O'Rourke will headline nights on June 25 and 27 respectively.
A spokesperson for Meltdown told nme.com that all the shows this year would not be 'typical' gigs. She said: "The festival is organic and it changes from week to week as more people get involved. The point is that you don't get the same old gigs."
More acts for this year's Meltdown will be announced in the coming weeks.
