The Charlatans to give new album away free

The Charlatans are set to make their new album available as a free download via Xfm.

The first single from the album ’You Cross My Path’ will be available to download from October 22 via Xfm.co.uk.

In addition, both the single and album will be featured on Thecharlatans.net. The record, which is currently being mixed, will be available next year.

The radio play of the new single and exclusive interviews with the band as well as manager Alan McGee can be heard on Xfm's ’Music Response’ show after 8pm on October 4.

McGee said: "Why would you volunteer to join the army for 10 years unless you had no choice? Record companies are kind of like the army - very regulated. We were really excited when Xfm got behind us and were as enthusiastic about the download as we are. They are the first people to embrace music for the people.

"The band will get paid by more people coming to gigs, buying merchandise, publishing and sync fees. I believe it’s the future business model."

The band are set to play:

Glasgow ABC (November 3)
Manchester Ritz (4)
London Shepherd’s Bush Empire (5 & 6)
