Radiohead new album: Band respond to bitrate criticism

Radiohead have responded to criticisms that the bitrate of new album ’In Rainbows’ was too low for some fans.

Some people who downloaded the album have suggested that the band should have given them a choice about the audio quality of their download.

Responding to the criticism, guitarist Jonny Greenwood said: “I don’t know, we talked about it and we just wanted to make it a bit better than iTunes, which it is, so that’s kind of good enough, really. It’s never going to be CD quality, because that’s what CD does.”

The guitarist spoke about the variable pricing of the album, explaining that it was done to make people consider the value of music.

“It’s fun to make people stop for a few seconds and think about what music is worth," Greenwood said. "That’s just an interesting question to ask people.”
