World-famous arena may be moved a couple of blocks
Madison Square Garden could be demolished and rebuilt two blocks away, if a new development plan gets the go ahead in New York.
The legendary arena is part of a plan to revamp Penn Station in New York City, and to convert the General Post Office building into a second train station. The two train stations would be connected by a tunnel running beneath Eighth Avenue, while Madison Square Garden would be raised to the ground and rebuilt on Ninth Avenue.
The plan has been in development for over ten years, and this revamped $14 billion plan was unveiled yesterday by the Empire State Development Corporation, reports the Daily News.
If the plan gets the green light, the new Madison Square Garden would be completed by 2011.
