Meat Loaf to continue tour despite abandoned gig

Veteran singer denies retirement claims

Meat Loaf will continue his UK tour despite ending a show in Newcastle (October 31) early and calling off another one in Birmingham (November 2) this week.

The singer, who is suffering from acute laryngitis, abandoned the show on Wednesday due to “exhaustion and stress” his manager said, and then postponed last night’s gig on doctor’s orders.

“Performing for my fans is the most important thing in the world to me. Over the years, I’ve gone on stage with a broken foot and an arrhythmic heart,” he explained in a statement. “It was devastating to come off stage in Newcastle but over time, I’ve reluctantly learned that I have to abide by what the doctors tell me to do.”

The shows will be rescheduled, while the following European dates are set to continue:

Meanwhile the singer’s official website has claimed that comments Meat Loaf made during the Newcastle gig that this would be the last time he played the city were referring specifically to 2007 and he is not hinting at retirement.

He had told the audience before abandoning the show: “This is my last show I may ever do in my life. I take my coat off to you and thank you for the last 30 years.”
