E Street's Danny Federici will undergo cancer treatment

Organist Danny Federici played his last show for the time being in Boston with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.

Springsteen’s organist since the 1960s, Federici was diagnosed with the skin cancer melanoma, and left the group to undergo treatment for the condition.

The band are currently on the road in support of new LP 'Magic', released earlier this year.

Federici has been temporarily replaced by Charles Giordano, who previously toured with Springsteen on the Seeger Sessions jaunt in 2006.

After hitting Europe before the end of 2007, the band embark on a major North American tour in February 2008, having played a select number of shows this year.

In a message on his official website, Springsteen offered his support for Federici, saying: "Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return.”

Federici’s last show for now with the band was in Boston, when he broke down in tears onstage at the end of the show.
