Graham Coxon reveals why Blur didn't reunite

Guitarist tells NME.COM why recording session never happened

Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has explained why the much-feted Blur reunion never occurred.

The band members had previously told NME.COM that they had a week in a studio booked for December, where they would record together as a four-piece for the first time since 2002.

However Coxon explained to NME.COM that when the band met up for a meal before the recording week, they didn’t actually discuss recording, so never followed it up.

"I think people thought, ‘Oh, it’s a bit too much, just jumping into a studio’," he said. "We met for a catch-up and it was great, but there was no real talk of recording. It doesn’t really bother me. I’ve got enough going on to feel happy and fulfilled."

For the full interview with Coxon, and to find out whether he thinks the band will reform again in the future, see next week’s issue of NME, on UK newsstands from next Wednesday (February 6).

Because they couldn't match Oasis in the studio anymore. Simple as...

i bet they met up and just argued over the ketchup for an hour and remembered why they split in the first place.

It's a real shame that Blur haven't got back together.... at their very best as a four piece they're one of the most innovative bands ever from Sing, through Oily Water, This Is A Low, He Thought Of Cars.... A true one-off band...

one thing oasis dont have and most other bands that blur do have or did have was band chemistry. They are an old fasioned art school band, just like the beatles, the who and the kinks. oasis long to be as big as the beatles, but simply cuz liam duz f_uck all and noel does everything they never will be. blur r more similar to the beatles, oasis r more like the stones

Ahhh Damon, Damon. You just couldn't take not being the best songwriter of the 90's. Noel was, but, as much as I dislike Blur and Country House was such a poor song. I think Song 2 was a alright song and I do think they would suceed if they come back now.

I think Oasis is quite lucky that Blur didn't re-unite (yet), seeing as they're so much more talented and actually understand the concept of making DIFFERENT SOUNDING music.

Couldn't match oasis in the studio anymore, ok blur's last album was crap but the last three oasis albums were a bag of shit. They just got rich off touring there first two records

Oh, that's quite a shame. I was hoping that they would get back together. Blur's one of Brittain's best bands ever, really. But okay, if they're not that into it, that's fair. I bet, we all know for sure, they're not finished - I mean, Damon Albarn... still on fire.

Last 3 Oasis albums were shit? That's just ignorant. Blur are a crackin' band but they just can't match Oasis in the studio, doesn't make them a bad band. Also, Oasis' last tour was the highest grossing they've had yet and their biggest since the Definitely Maybe tour. Fact > opinion

How much theyre making has nothing to do with the quality of their music; James Blunt is a high-grossing artist and he's absolute bollocks.
I think it's more important for the guys in Blur to be happy with themselves (& the others, esp Graham & Damon; that's a really really sad thing to go) than for them to make an album. It might even be in their better interest that they just don't go there, esp. if Oasis are STILL going at it with their constantly praised bully behaviour towards basically the whole planet. I won't voice an opinion on Blur vs. Oasis because they're completely different, and theyve had differing impacts on music, both obviously huge. And for the record, I'm a very big admirer of Damon; he's just a very puzzling man. I live surrounded by puzzling, good-intentioned, good-hearted guys; I've just grown to really admire it.
