Shockwaves NME Awards 2008: The Wombats win Best Dancefloor Filler

Klaxons and Foals beaten to the post by the Liverpool trio

The Wombats have won the Best Dancefloor Filler award supported by Club NME at the Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 for their song, ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Division’.

Collecting their award from presenters We Are Scientists, singer Murph was in typically comical form.

He said: “Thanks to everyone's dancing shoes boogying on down... I kind of want to ring my mum and tell her that I'm sitting next to Muse. I'm going to stick this where the sun don't shine. Cheers.”

The other nominees for the Best Dancefloor Filler award, new for 2008, were Bloc Party (’Flux’, Foals (’Hummer’), Klaxons (’Atlantis To Interzone’) and Justice (‘D.A.N.C.E.’).

For all the awards coverage head to NME.COM/awards now. We have exclusive picture galleries, live webcams, minute-by-minute blogs straight from the ceremony and Big Gig and video interviews with the biggest names at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, next week's issue of NME - on UK newsstands from March 5 - will contain the ultimate coverage, interviews and photos from the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards.

Well done to the 'Bat's. Thoroughly deserved it! What a bunch of absolute legends. I haven't stopped boogying to Let's Dance to Joy Division...one of the finest songs ever written and a fantastic track to get crushed to at gigs. Congrats!

Pathetic. How can somebody who has taken the mick out of Joy Division deserve an award?
They are so over-hyped and how can people say it was 'on of the finest songs ever written', morons!
