Keith Richards warns Amy Winehouse off drugs

The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards has warned Amy Winehouse off drugs, stating that she "isn't going to be around long" if she doesn't stop.

The guitarist also said that the singer is his favourite modern artist.

Richards explained: "There's only one [singer I like], that girl Amy. Mind you, that girl isn't going to be around long unless she sorts herself out pretty quick. Amy's got to get smart.

"I'm not a preacher. But I've been there and you have to pass it on."

Speaking to the Mail On Sunday, Richards also compared her legal problems with those of The Rolling Stones in the 1970s, saying: "It completely took over our lives creatively and we couldn't do this and couldn't do that.

"You had to spend all your time trying to deal with the police. The same thing has happened to Amy Winehouse."

I think Keith is doin the right thing warning Amy ... she is an amazing singer and i definately wnat her to be around in 10 - 20 years maybe more.

I agree with kirsty-18, Keith realizes how much talent Amy has and doesn't want her to throw that away. I hope she gets better soon.

Right Keith...keep reaching out to her...she needs sober drunks and druggies around....Fans, paps, friends and family, please know that she didn't choose her alcoholism and addiction, just as no one chooses cancer....it's a disease that just gets triggered in some people and not others....and her efforts to quit won't work if she doesn't want it, or if she secretly tries to quit on her own. I'm sure she's tried to quit or "cut back" and because she's a strong person, inside she's pretty freaked and angry at herself that she can't do it. That's how this illness keeps so many...because they try to secretly quit on their own and they just can't, and it's very shaming and discouraging. She needs AA so she can be around other people who know exactly what she's going thru...it's complicated.....90 meetings in 90 days is a great start. If some "cool" people in recovery could reach out to her and bring her to their meetings, that would be best. Or, she could be court ordered to attend 90 in 90...that will give her enough of a foundation to see she's not alone; not unique in her suffering with alcoholism and addicition. Millions have learned to recover, and she can also. Hurry up and act now before Blake gets out, or there will be a dance of death.

oh gimme a break you tool, comparing being an alcholic or a junkie to getting cancer. people like you make me sick, people need to learn to take responsibility for their own actions. theres a major difference between the two- choice. no matter how much an alcholic or a junkie may like to feel sorry for themselves the fact is every time you take a drink/smoke/hit you have a choice, with cancer you have no choice whatsoever, with cancer you cant cure yourself by choosing not to do/take something. you cant cure cancer by going to meetings and sitting round with other cancer sufferers feeling sorry for yourself and being there for eachother, completely different kettle of fish. you should be ashamed of yourself for even comparing the two.

That is annoying... Keith Richards is an absolute legend and he considers HER to be his favourite. I mean, I do admire him more for doing this as she needs to sort her life out...

Supercool my butt. You make me sick! Get off your high horse dude. Ive got issues with drink and I can tell you its not always down to choice. Im not even the greatest of fans of Amy Winehouse but I can imagine it must be pretty tough trying stay clean when your loaded and you've got a bunch of condacending pricks like you in the world. I do agree that comparing it to cancer is a bit much though.

Supercooljt above i salute u, Amy winehouse, pete doherty and all those others scumbags are in the state they are through choice and having know people who have died from cancer, i feel massively offended that you made this comparison. I can bet that this is doesnt get put on the site though cos NME dont like there favorites being slagged.

Calm down folks! Two things can be compared and classed as SIMILAR in one or two aspects without being the SAME. I think that what USAags was trying to say was that alcoholism and cancer are similar insofar as some people can be genetically predisposed to suffer from these conditions. There is no reason to be offended by this point, which has plenty of scientific evidence to back it up.

i liked her until i watched the video that hubby Blake filmed of her the other day on a Terry Richardson photoshoot for Spin. She had 'stuff' falling out of her crotch. it was grim.
