Kurt Cobain is to be "honoured" with his own training shoe this year.

The Nirvana frontman is to get a limited edition Converse shoe bearing his name, lyrics, writing and signature to mark the brand's 100th anniversary, reports Brand Republic.

Unlike a Doc Martin's campaign featuring Kurt Cobain last year, Cobain's widow Courtney Love has sanctioned this release.

The Cobain shoe is part of the trainer brand's birthday celebrations, which have featured a number of other dead people. These have included Joy Division's Ian Curtis, writer Hunter S Thompson and the Sex Pistols' Sid Vicious.

did kurt cobain ever accept sponsorship or corporate bucks when he was alive? selling writing from his diary on shoes just seems exploitative to me.

This idea is more about boosting the brand image of converse. This has nothing to do whatsoever with music. It goes against everything Nirvana, Joy Division and the Pistols stood for. It's simply corporate, marketed bollocks.

While I'm not all "OH NOES, TEH CORPRITES!!!!", I have to agree - under their current Nike ownership, I seriously doubt Kurt would have approved of Converse using his likeness, lyrics or otherwise.

i'm just wondering if she's really thinking about what kurt would want or if she is just bankrolling in on his effin name dude. i don't think he would have wanted to have his own pair of shoes named after him . i for one think its lame and low. but hey money talks and she has to live with the fact that she is not respecting his soul at all.

Why is it that every time anyone mentions or does something about Cobain people have the need to make countless displays of hostility. "He never wanted this!" How do you all know he didn't, maybe he secretly did and he had it all planned out in his wet dreams. "Let him have his rest" Well, it's just a tribute and him being a public figure shouldn't have meant that the media was entitled to rape his existence but... they did and the little fiends are unstoppable nobody can protect him anymore. "Courtney will not have my money" If you don't like it, don't buy the shoe. But let me tell you that a lot of money was stolen from Courtney and Frances and it has been mad for them and in the end Converse get the big money. If you don't like the memory of the demi golden rock so-called rock god...buy the regular black and whites and let the band kids, pseudo cobainities buy this ones. I don't like the idea all that much but... just let them have it, Kurt can still make people happy somehow

This is messed up. Lets celebrate Kurt Cobain by wearing the shoes he died in, and reaping the benifits to his murderer. We don't need a pair of shoes to "honour" Kurt. And it's not like it's just a couple song lyrics..it's his PERSONAL diary. Last time I buy converse.

I agree this is a reasonabley good idea. I understand that Converse are hoping to make money on this deal, but its in a good way right? These are being made to remember Kurt and i think people who wear them are respecting him and keeping the bands legacy alive.
Nirvana will never die, and these trainers, if anyone buys them (and thats not looking too hopefull from all the negative comments here) It will keep Cobain and his musical genius alive for years to come.

Well... look i didn't know Kurt, but my guess is that if he was still alive, he'd probably STILL have a pretty significant drug problem and at this point would probably be on his 100th "best of" album and would take cash from wherever he could get it... including from one of his favorite shoe companies. In my opinion a well designed shoe.
