Jack Johnson brings first day of Coachella to a close

Hawaiian singer covers Led Zeppelin

Surfing singer Jack Johnson brought the first day of the Coachella festival to a close (April 25).

Casually dressed in jeans and a T-shirt, the singer played tracks from all five albums including 'Breakdown' and 'Sitting, Wishing, Waiting'.

Johnson didn't speak much during the set but did pay tribute the other acts that had played before him, saying: "It's such an honour to be here on stage that played here today – I'm happy to be with them."

Changing from acoustic guitar to electric halfway through the set, Johnson launched into 'Staple It Together', which saw the songwriter even weaving in a bit of Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love' into the chorus.

Johnson was later joined on stage by some pals to help out with vocal duties and slide guitar on a track from the film 'A Brokedown Melody', much to the crowd’s glee.

And although a lot of gig goers had disappeared after The Verve's set, which took place just before Johnson's, the gathered crowd were dancing and singing along to every word.

Closing on the hit 'Better Together', Johnson’s set finished to a resounding applause despite the desert chill.
