Grammy Awards nail down a date for 2009

The LA ceremony will take place in February

The 51st Annual Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 8, 2009, organisers announced today (May 22).

The massive US music event will take place at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, as it has in previous years.

Grammy nominations will be announced in Los Angeles on December 4, 2008.

"The next 50 is here, and we are delighted to be in our hometown," said Recording Academy President Neil Portnow in a statement.

"We will continue to offer a weeklong series of Grammy events that showcase various genres of music, educational programmes and charitable activities. Additionally, we look forward to working with the city of Los Angeles and our great partners at CBS and Staples Center on another memorable Grammy show."

The programme is set to be broadcast on CBS television network February 8 at 8:00pm ET/PT.

Amy Winehouse and Kanye West were big winners at the last Grammy Awards ceremony, held on February 10 in Los Angeles, as previously reported.
