Oasis say 'Coldplay are trying to beat our record' - Tabloid Hell

The rockers reckon Chris Martin and co. want their first week sales crown

Sources close to Oasis are apparently suggesting that Coldplay are attempting to steal their album sales crown by releasing their forthcoming new album, 'Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends', on a Thursday.

Oasis released their third album, 'Be Here Now', on a Thursday (August 20) in 1997, and clocked up a record 700,000 sales in three days. Coldplay's album will be out on Thursday June 12.

The Sun quotes an anonymous source close to Oasis as saying: "Some people reckon Coldplay have nicked their successful blueprint from 'Be Here Now' to try to break the record."

However, another anonymous source, this time from the Coldplay camp, is quoted as saying: "The band [Coldplay] decided to release the album on a Thursday to bring it in line with the rest of Europe. Oasis was never an influence."

I don’t know why oasis worries about these other bands like coldplay or even the relevance of some of their ridiculous arguments stem from. Who really cares about coldplay anymore??...Oh my fault the people who watch American idol still care

If no one cared about Coldplay, Oasis wouldn't be worried would they. I don't watch American idol by the way.

Wow are Oasis jealous or what? That's actually quite low if either of the bands considered trying to out-do the other, we're all in the music together surely?

to be honest, I don't think that Coldplay have any chance whatsoever of beating this record for their new album. The atmosphere around the time of Be Here Now was fereish - people would have crawled over broken glass to get a copy on the day of release. There was a lot of excitement around the release of X&Y and even that didn't break Oasis' record. There is nowhere near the same interest for this release, although I have no doubt it will still sell very well. Oasis should concentrate on getting their own album out - that's what we really want to hear!!

Christ, why don't Oasis just piss off? Yes, yes, they were once one of the biggest bands on the planet, though most of their records were absolutely dismal (check out "Wonderwall," cleverly dissed by Travis in their song "Writing to Meet You") they couldn't write a decent lyric to save their lives and the Gallagher Brothers were/are misogynistic, homophobic, obnoxious pigs. Their rock star posturing (very public drug usage, provoking violence at their gigs, etc., etc....yawn) was more embarressing than anything. But when was the last time anyone bought one of their records? Blur (you'll remember that Oasis opined that they hoped Albarn and company would "get AIDS" when the latter beat them to the top of the U.K. singles chart in '95) were much better. As they once cruelly and publicly characterized the beautiful and fragile Michael Hutchence, Oasis are has-beens. I'd rather listen to Coldplay (the title track of the new LP is my favourite), the Manics or a score of other groups any day.
