MTV Awards to hit Los Angeles

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are coming to Los Angeles this year, it was announced today (June 23).

The infamous awards show that featured Britney Spears' "comeback" performance of 'Gimme More' last year is moving from Las Vegas to Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The VMAs will air live on September 7. For the first time this year, audiences will help determine the nominees, reports the Associated Press. The nominees and performers will be announced at a later date.

"With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of LA are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for," President of MTV Networks Van Toffler said in a statement.

The last time the VMAs hit Los Angeles was 10 years ago.
