The Drifters win legal battle

Legendary group had been fighting for sole use of their name

The Drifters have today (July 3) reached an out-of-court settlement with another group performing under the same name.

The group has featured over 60 different members since it was formed 55 years ago by manager George Treadwell.

To date, The Drifters have sold 114 million albums and 214 million singles, including hits like, 'Saturday Night At The Movies' and 'Up On The Roof'.

In recent years fans have been confused by a glut of other groups, some featuring ex-members, performing under the same name.

Treadwell's daughter, Tina, now looks after the interests of the group.

Asked about the court case, she commented: "We are thrilled by this outcome – for far too many years, The Drifters brand has been diluted. Now fans can be sure they can rely on a consistently high quality and authentic performance every time."
