I should imagine the most popular heckle at her gigs is 'Don't get your tits out!'

Wow - up against such heated competition! Why the fuck would the front cover of a shit mag, featuring a talentless morbidly obese moron win anything other than "the shittest thing ever done by man"

Why is this up for an award? Obesity is not something we should celebrate as it is just as bad as having anorexic models on magazine covers. Obesity is just the polar opposite of size zero, neither of which are healthy in the slightest. I imagine there are people out there who see this picture as a 'fuck you' to the companies who put un-naturally skinny girls on mag covers, but it really is just as bad.Lose some weight love, not just for your own health but for the obese people out there who are under the illusion that being grossly overweight is 'natural'... it isn't. Harsh but fair I feel.

I havnt anything against Beth Ditto or fat people but havin her on the frount cover and getting an award is really promoting obesity and being well over weight which is as we all no very bad for you.

Finally some sense! I made these points the other year when everyone was licking her arse saying she was beautiful and a great roll model... etc and was getting shot down for being fattest...Thank god I can come on here today and see intelligent people, in the majority, making the seemingly quite obvious point that Beth Ditto is no better a role model than an anorexic model! Unfortunately there will always be people like "the_royal_wee" who just aren't quite getting it. Apparently "it's cool"... though I wonder if he really knows why! Can't see it myself...

Is it wrong that I've cracked one off the wrist over this cover?

surely the point is that this is a cover based on talent - not looks - for once. surely that premise is good? also, the fact she is naked is a punk 'two-fingers' at any who thinks you have to be a model to be acceptable to be on a mag cover. wrong - anyone should be - regardless of body type. the early loaded mags had jack nicholson and steve mcqueen on the cover - but none sold as many as page 3 girls. and the rest is history.

these comments are really dark. they're a cool band and it's a cool cover that doesn't submit to the horrible prerequisite that mag covers have to have models on them. doesn't make her a role model. or perfect. it just makes it novel.

I agree with most of the above comments. This cover isn't challenging or provocative or good in the way NME seems to think it is. It's wrong for many reasons. 1. It's completely pushing past the "music" aspect of what I thought was the New Musical Express and focusing entirely on the appearance of someone in a band2. She is morbidly obese and highlighting this is glorifying over-eating and an unhealthy lifestyle. If it was the front cover of the medical health journal then it might have bad connotations but you are putting this woman on a pedastal of "cool", and by promoting her image alongside this "cool" tag you are associating her weight with being cool.3. It's airbrushed to high heaven which ironically defeats any bold point (if there ever was a point) in having a fat woman naked on the magazine in some sick "punk" way.4. How can a magazine cover that makes people feel ill be the best cover of all time? There's a magazine on my floor with a bog-standard photograph of John Lennons face for the cover which is 1000x better than this trite, and it's not even a great picture of Lennon.

obesity is just as unhealthy as anorexia. is it cool that she is endangering her heart and health?
