The Cure tell fans: 'Don't buy our music from iTunes'

Goth veterans also reveal new album tracklisting

The Cure have urged fans not to buy their 'Hypnagogic States' EP from iTunes.

Writing on his personal blog, singer Robert Smith accused iTunes of ripping off the band's fans by charging £7.99 for the EP, which contains five remixes of the veterans' first four singles from their new album.

"This is absurd," Smith wrote. "TMU [shorthand for 'The Men Upstairs'] have managed to fuck this up to another level."

He also posted an email he sent to the label, where he claimed the pricing was "totally fucking wrong".

"I fucking despair," he added.

However, a spokesperson for the band's label later explained that the EP had accidentally been priced as an album, and assured fans it would drop to the right cost shortly.

"There was a delivery error at the record company end," they explained. "The correct pricing will appear in iTunes from tomorrow (September 17)."

The remixes have been contributed by the likes of My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump.

'Perfect Boy (Mix 13)', 'Sleep When I'm Dead (Mix 13)', 'Freakshow (Mix 13)' and 'The Only One (Mix 13)' are all currently in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot Singles Sales in the US.

Smith also revealed on the blog that the tracklisting for the band's new album, '4:13 Dream', out on October 28, is as follows:

'Underneath The Stars'
'The Only One'
'The Reasons Why'
'Freakshow'
'Sirensong'
'The Real Snow White'
'The Hungry Ghost'
'Switch'
'The Perfect Boy'
'This. Here And Now. With You'
'Sleep When I'm Dead'
'The Scream'
'It's Over'

We Wont Robert. How utterly devastating to see that you have allowed any of your songs to remixed by Fall Out Boy and MCR is absolutely beyond me. I suppose The Cheeky Girls will get a crack next. David Gilmour and the like go into the twilight of their careers with dignity and respect, you my old son, have neither now. A Disgruntled Cure Fan.

While I am a fan of miserablists with ozone-depleting grooming habits, I have to side with the other commenters. You can fuck right off with your Fall Out Boy remixes.

Music fans tell The Cure -Don't worry, we won't. Not on iTunes, not anywhere, I wouldn't even illegally download it. Yes, he's right, £7.99 is a rip-off. Even their 'good' songs are shit and they all came out about 20 years ago, I wasn't even born!

The Cure remain my favourite band of all time, however if we don;t buy it off iTunes then where do we get it from, because I have had real difficulties getting hold of it in physical format. And please, could you start touring the Uk rather than giving your US fans preferential treatment. Some of us have worked through our teenage crises and now our early-midlife ups and downs to your music, aren't we worth that?

Ignore the FOB and MCR stuff. The 65daysofstatic remix is worth £7.99 all on it's own. It's pretty poor that NME never mention it when talking about the EP.

Just had a listen to 4:13 DREAM, I loved it, so fresh, so CURE but so NEW!!! Even if I wasn't sure about some of the singles, on the album it makes all sence! Can't wait for the "DARK" album to get released!!
