Fall Out Boy delay album release to avoid US election

They say it's not 'cute' to release against Obama and co

Fall Out Boy are seeking to delay the release of their new album, having decided they are against the idea of tying in the release with election day in the US.

In a message posted on their website, the band say that releasing ‘Folie A Deux’ on November 4 would be a “gimmick” and that this is not the election to be “cute”, saying:

"Six months ago we thought it would be a fun idea to release our album on election day but this is not the election to be cute. We felt as though rather than making a commentary we were only riding the wave of the election. This seemed less and less like what we intended to do and more of a gimmick."

The message went on to say that the band's record label Island has to decide on the new release date, but that there will be bonus material made available on the record, if a new date is agreed upon.

As previously reported, the band recently donated $50,000 to a cause that fights Proposition 8, a bill that if passed, could overturn the right to gay marriage in California.
