Dizzee Rascal has said he would consider running for prime minister following Barack Obama's presidential win in the US.

The rapper revealed his political aspirations while appearing on the BBC's flagship political programme Newsnight yesterday (November 5).

Asked by Jeremy Paxman if he would consider running for the top job in Britain, Dizzee Rascal said it would be something he could consider.

Watch the interview below.

Rascal was giving his reaction to Barack Obama's election win, but when Paxman asked the rapper for his views on the UK political parties he said: "I don't know if I care."

Paxman then goaded Rascal, saying: "Well, why don't you run for office?"

Rascal replied: "See, that's a very good idea. I might have to do that one day. Dizzee Rascal for prime minister, yeah!"

Earlier in the interview, Rascal had praised president-elect Obama for embracing hip hop, suggesting it played a part in energising younger voters to his cause.

"I don't think he could have won it without hip hop," he said. "Hip hop is what encouraged the youth to get involved in voting and making the place better. And he's the first president to embrace it."
