First act for Glastonbury 2009 announced

The first band has been confirmed for the Glastonbury 2009 festival – Liverpool four-piece Major Major.

The band have confirmed their involvement in next year's event after winning the RockStar Bands competition, held in the nearby village of Pilton earlier this year.

The band have won a recording session at Peter Gabriel's studio as well as a spot at the festival.

The four-piece, whose music you can hear at myspace.com/majormajorband, played at the Glastonbury party gig with Franz Ferdinand and The Ting Tings last month.

It is yet to be announced which Glastonbury stage Major Major will perform on at the festival, which is set to take place on June 26, 27 and 28 next summer.

Breaking with tradition, tickets for the next Glastonbury festival have gone on sale already, with festival-goers able to put down a deposit to reserve their place for the 2009 event.
