Prince's purple reign challenged by perfume maker

Prince has been sued by a perfume company alleging that he failed to help promote the '3121' fragrance named after his 2006 album.

Perfume maker Revelations is seeking $100,000 for breach of contract in the suit filed in New York State Supreme Court. They also name the Purple One's music publisher, Universal Music Publishing Group, in the suit.

Revelations claims that Universal agreed to a deal in which the publishing company would earn 50 per cent of the net profits from the sale of the fragrances in exchange for arranging marketing opportunities with Prince, reports Reuters.

"Since July 2007, despite repeated attempts by Revelations there have been virtually no communications from anyone who could commit to or coordinate any promotional efforts by Prince," it said in the suit.

Universal Music Publishing group issued a statement in response saying the claims are "completely without merit."

The first version of '3121' came out in 2007, and another one is due out next year.
