MGMT beat Kings Of Leon, Oasis and more to Album Of The Year prize

Find out who's in NME's albums and tracks of 2008 now

MGMT have claimed a rare double, topping both NME's Albums and Tracks Of 2008 lists.

The Brooklyn-based duo are at Number One with their debut LP 'Oracular Spectacular', while the song 'Kids' tops the tracks countdown.

The list was voted for by NME's writers and staff and also features the likes of Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio, Santogold, Kings Of Leon and Foals in the albums top 10.

Meanwhile, MGMT dominate the tracks list, with three songs in the top 10, while the likes of MIA, Mystery Jets and Glasvegas also score highly.

For the top ten NME albums and tracks of 2008 head to the NME Office blog now.

To see the full 50 albums and tracks that have made it into the 2008 list, buy this week's issue of NME, on UK newsstands now.

The issue also features a world exclusive interview with Blur on their comeback, which NME.COM announced earlier this week.

Delighted Kids is your top tune of the year. I have been saying the same all year. Seen them play in Seattle in April, Glastonbury in June and then at Shepherds Bush 2 weeks ago, and each time they were amazing

Mgmt are extremely overrated. there were alot better albums released this year than that.

what are you doing? Sex On Fire, seriously is this saracasm? OHHHH, it's because MGMT are less successful than Kings Of Leon, and therefore cooler. I forgot this was the NME, my bad

What...there have been a lot of album crackers released by established acts, but it goes to the bloody MGMT...but that's what NME goes for these days...

well HOW surprising nme. the top 10 are basically all the bands that you've bragged on about for the past 12 months, i wonder if mgmt will be popular next year after they've gone 'too mainstream' for you. i wonder when you'll realise that it's nme that make bands mainstream in the first place...

D. Conka, how is leaving a comment stating a fact that the album was released last year being a 'smart ass'?The whole list looks piss poor to be honest, Intimacy, This Is A Fix, Day and Age were 3 of the best albums this year, Only By The Night is the only album I even think is a slight stand out, even then its nothing compared to earlier KOL albums. Oracular Spectacular is a good album, but not 'this years' 'best' by along long long shot.

NME, you went far this timeMGMT is totally overratedyou have a pattern to pick a band and put them on a pedestal, but most of the times it's justified like with the strokes and arctic monkeys because they are really great bands, but MGMT? Are you kidding me!?

The Feeling, Scouting for Girls and The Hoosiers count as music?

Really? Over TV on the Radio? Just because MGMT is easy to get high and dance to doesn't make it album of the year.

Only By The Night is a piss-poor effort from Kings Of Leon. Maybe they just set the standard too high with their first 3 albums. I like the MGMT album, but Fleet Foxes was my favourite album of the year.

How can you justify giving the Kings of Leon album 7 out of 10 in reviews, then give for example Oasis and The Verve 8 and not include them???You think its uncool to include mainstream bands even though they have brought out really good albums, but its ok when you use them on your front cover to sell more magazines??

MGMT only have one (half) decent song. Two chords and some bleeps an album does not make.

I agree with this list, especially MGMT at the top, the album is so diverse in the songs, from the pop song of 'Kids' to 'Of Moons, Birds and Monster' of which nearly half the song is instrumental. Or 'Pieces of What' which is relativly simular to country music. I doubte many of the other people writing here truely listerned to the album in full and appreiciated what mastery there is in the songs. Many basing the album on the singles alone. Which are really good, but don't reveil the best parts of MGMT and that is their creativity.
