'X Factor' winner Alexandra Burke's 'Hallelujah' breaks download record

The song is set to become the show's biggest-selling release

'X Factor' winner Alexandra Burke is on course to claim the UK's Christmas Number One single position through download sales alone.

Burke's cover of 's version of 'Hallelujah' also looks likely to feature in next week's chart, after rising to Number 30 yesterday. NME.COM reported last week (December 9) that Buckley fans were campaigning to get his song to Number One.

One Facebook group dedicated to the cause currently has over 35,000 members, who are being encouraged to download Buckley's version of the song this week. It originally appeared on his 1994 debut album 'Grace'.

Find out more about the history of 'Hallelujah' at NME.COM/PHOTOS. You can also watch different versions of the song, and debate whose 'Hallelujah' is the best, on the NME Office Blog.

This song is waaaaaaaay to good for the X FactorWay too good.Nobody takes the X Factor that seriously, and Hallelujah is possibly one of the most serious songs ever written.Alexandra is an amazing singer, and she sings it really well, but I think it puts a lot of christmas novelty into in, If you get what I mean.

Oh you poor ignorants who keep ranting about a thing like that when you don't even know that it's not a Jeff Buckley song. Ever heard of a guy called Leonard Cohen?

ynnijei, we know its not jeff's song, but it might as well be after the way he sang it, the fact that the X factor has decided to cover it takes all the purity and meaning out of it, its not even a woman's song (hence the lyrics). People please join the facebook group and do the decent thing, X factor no1 again???? Hallelujah coming to a kareoke machine near you.
