Prince previews new track online
The Purple One is reportedly ready to release new record independently
Prince reportedly debuted a new song on a mysterious website over the weekend, but it disappeared as quickly as it came.
The funky, soul-influenced song, 'There Will Never B Another 1 Like Me' appeared on the website mplsound.com, but the site seems to be dormant today. However it's worth keeping an eye on the site, whose name is an abbreviation for Prince's hometown of Minneapolis, as he may be posting more material there in the future.
The song, which clocks in at just over six minutes, name-checks funk legend Rick James, reports Rolling Stone.
Prince also premiered a handful of songs on Los Angeles radio station Indie 103 last week, including a cover of 'Crimson & Clover', 'Colonized Mind' and 'Wall Of Berlin'.
The Purple One reportedly told the radio station that he has nearly finished a new album, but “wants nothing to do with record labels, so he’s meeting with people to figure out how to operate at his level without a record label."
