Jack White joins Nashville Business Council

Jack White has joined the Music Business Council in his home city of Nashville, on a 46-member board alongside the likes of Emmylou Harris and Kix Brooks.

The White Stripes man joins various music professionals on the council, which was set up to protect the city’s brand name 'Music City', says Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

The council will meet to discuss music-related business decisions made by the city such as a new downtown amphitheatre, expanding the CMA Music Festival and the possibility of a non-country music festival.

"We are known to the world as 'Music City'" Dean said, according to CNBC. "Not 'The Athens of the South' or 'The Home of the Cumberland' or whatever. And we need to protect our brand and our positioning as Music City, to keep creative people here and attract people to the city and help our tax base. We want to know what the city can do together with the music industry to help them succeed here."

In addition to artists, The Music Business Council includes producers, songwriters, agents publishers and more. The first meeting of the council took place last week.
