Marilyn Manson takes make-up and wardrobe assistants onstage at Download

The singer warms up the Main Stage for Slipknot

Marilyn Manson takes make-up and wardrobe assistants onstage at Download

Marilyn Manson played Download this evening (June 13) and was joined onstage by a small entourage of make-up and costume assistants, who primped and preened him after almost every song.

Manson arrived on the Main Stage at 7.20pm [BST], 10 minutes after he was scheduled to appear. A giant black sheet which was covering the stage dropped dramatically to reveal the anti-hero standing behind it, sporting a gigantic hat.

Removing the hat during his opening song 'Four Rusted Horses', Manson stalked the stage in a trademark all-black outfit which included platform boots and a shirt with a large silver razorblade printed on the front.

After 'Irresponsible Hate Anthem', Manson asked the crowd if he should wear the new coat he was being offered by his assistants, saying: "I don't think you motherf**kers need a coat. Or do you need a coat?"

However, he later donned a black leather jacket with silver chains and then a white mackintosh, pulling the hood up over his head.

Propping himself up with one arm and grinding the stage during his rendition of 'The Dope Show', Manson introduced the song by saying: "I need to advise you as an adult supervisor, do not do drugs." He then paused, adding: "Unless you get them for free," to cheers from the audience.

Manson then sang his cover version of the Eurythmics' 'Sweet Dreams', throwing his microphone across the stage during the song.
