Nine Inch Nails announce final live shows

Plus Trent Reznor's band to play Virgin Festival Toronto

Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor has announced that the band will play a series of live shows in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles later this year to mark their final ever gigs.

He also said that the band will headline the Virgin Festival in Toronto, Canada this year – the dates, location and full line-up of which are yet to be announced.

The frontman had previously announced that Nine Inch Nails' show at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee last month would be the band's last US show, but he has since had a change of heart.

Although specific dates have not been announced, the shows will start from August 22 and will take place in the New York Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5 venues.

In Chicago they will play the Aragon Ballroom. In Los Angeles they will play at the Wiltern, the Henry Fonda, the Palladium and the Echoplex.

The Horrors will support the band at some of the New York shows, while Mew will support the band in all three cities.

Writing on the band's official website, Nin.com, Reznor explained that he wanted to bow out from the live scene with more intimate shows than their recent large-scale gigs.

"They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer setlists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises," he wrote.

Elaborating on the reason for his decision, he added: "Upon reflection, the NIN/JA [Jane's Addiction, recent touring partners] tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight – it just didn't feel right to end NIN that way.

Reznor added that they could still play "perhaps more" shows to mark the final gig run.
