Oasis end Wembley Stadium residency by reviving old classic

Band wrap up a trio of shows by playing an old favourite

Oasis wrapped their third and final date at Wembley Stadium last night (July 12) by reviving one of their classic singles.

Noel Gallagher performed an acoustic version of 1994 Christmas single 'Whatever', during which he was joined on harmonica by guitarist Gem Archer.

The addition of the song represents one of the few changes to Oasis' set on this tour and the first time the band have played the hit single in the UK in years, though Gallagher did play a similar version of the song in Japan earlier in 2009.

The show, which was watched by both members of The Last Shadow Puppets, Alex Turner and Miles Kane, snooker ace Ronnie O' Sullivan, Kimberly Stewart and The Hours' Antony Genn, was the band's final night at the English soccer stadium, having played there on Thursday (July 9) and Saturday (11).

Marking the end of the band's summer UK stadium dates, frontman dived into the pit at the climax of the customary show closer, a version of The Beatles' I Am The Walrus', to shake hands with the front row.

I went on the thursday and the sound was shocking, I know it went completely for a couple of minutes and that wasn't much of a problem, but the fact that you pay £50 and can't hear it too well is shit... Shit PA system... FACT!!!

Without a doubt, the most forgettable gigs of the Summer. I went on Thursday an I agree, it was awful. Friends went on other nights and are of the same opinion. They should stop now.

That's a bit selfish AutumnStone - expecting a decent sound system - do you realise the financial implications of such overheads? The Bank Of Burnage isn't made of money you know ;D

"The Bank of Burnage" oh this is why is so love this site. its a level of wit you just dont get anymore. i mean you guys are really stretching yourselves here. You usually have to go to a building site to get that sort of wit. its like this place is run by Stephen Fry. More please, if your not too busy dersperatly trying to fit into your day glow shoes or whatever it is your being told to wear these days.

Well, it's nice to know that the Thursday gig was so bad. On the other hand the Sunday gig (which is what this article is about) was fantastic and very enjoyable.

I've been to several gigs at Wembley Stadium now and if you're not stood bang in the middle, nearer the front, the sound is terrible. Sound at Foot Fighters last year was terrible as was AC/DC a couple of weeks back. It's a big stadium and evidently difficult to fill. Saw Oasis on Saturday and managed to get in the Golden Circle - awesome. Oasis are oasis and you'll never get much banter out of them. What you do get is 2 hours of anthems which have shaped a generation and grown music publications such as this one! Long live Oasis

Farrell, you lose all credibilty in criticising people when you can't spell. Being sarcastic is bad enough but doing it while being thick is shameful. I'm assuming that "dersperatly" should be "desperately". Next time, ask someone with half a brain to check your spelling and grammar before you try to give people grief on here.

Seen them at wembley on saturday. the sound was awful, the whole night just felt flat. even the stadium of light leg of the tour was a hundred times better. crowd was more alive, probably because you could actually hear the music. even when kasabian tried to get the crowd going, everyone just seemed not to care, felt kind of embarrasing.. hopefully get to see kasabian again but in a better venue.

You're having a go at my spelling? And yet I seem to have managed to post my point just the once compared to your four. Mayby you were DESPERATLEY (I do hope thats right for you) trying to be heard. Still, a spelling mistake is as you say "shameful" (I for one can think of no greater shame that I could have brought upon myself). Next time get someone with half a brain to check if your post has been uploaded before you repost it.

Wrong again, Farrell. DESPERATELY. Jesus, you've been told four times. Why are you going on about Stephen Fry when you can't even master the English language? Talk about misplaced snobbery. You should try going down a building site - a lot more entertaining than your attempts at a 'witty comeback'
