Los Campesinos!, Girls, Wild Beasts play Cardiff Swn festival Los Campesinos! Tickets
Bands take over venues in Welsh capital
Los Campesinos!, Girls, Wild Beasts and Marina And The Diamonds were among the acts who played at the Swn festival in Cardiff this weekend (October 22-24).
The event, which saw acts play in various venues throughout the Welsh capital from Thursday (October 22) to last night (October 24), was in its third year running. Johnny Foreigner, Pulled Apart By Horses and Cate Le Bon were also among the acts drawing large wristband-wearing crowds at the event.
Thursday highlights included Wild Beasts headlining The Gate venue in the city’s Roath area. Marina And The Diamonds played in the Chapter Arts Centre on the other side of the city centre where Martin Carr, formerly of The Boo Radleys, also played.
On Friday Pulled Apart By Horses played downstairs at Clwb Ifor Bach. Shirtless singer Tom Hudson led the band through a series of frenetic hardcore efforts, foraging into the crowd numerous times – at one point vomiting into the audience area.
On the other side of Womanby Street a large queue formed outside Y Fuwch Goch, with punters heading to the venue early to catch hotly-tipped San Fransisco band Girls. The band played a set including single 'Hellhole Ratrace' in the packed room, keeping chat to a minimum.
Local band The Victorian English Gentlemens Club played at Chapter, playing after bands including Wet Dog and King Alexander.
Last night Cate Le Bon was one of the artists attracting a large crowd at Y Fuwch Goch venue despite her early billing. The Cardiff singer played songs from her debut album 'Me Oh My', greeting the crowd in Welsh.
Over at The Gate Los Campesinos! headlined a bill they had curated themselves. As well as crowd favourites including 'You! Me! Dancing!' the band, who formed at Cardiff University, played new songs such as 'Romance Is Boring' and ''A Heat Rash In The Shape Of The Show Me State; Or, Letters From Me To Charlotte'. The songs are set for the band’s February-bound new album.
Earlier at the venue bands including Dananananaykroyd and Internet Forever had played at the venue as guests of the twee-pop collective.
The night ended with a silent disco featuring DJs Huw Stephens, Steve Lemacq and Jon Rostron spinning tunes at the Cardiff University Students' Union until 4am (BST).
