X Factor winner Matt Cardle has gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart this evening (December 19) with his version of Biffy Clyro's 'Many Of Horror'.

The song, which Cardle retitled 'When We Collide', sold 439,000 copies in total to claim the 2010 Christmas Number One spot. It beat this week's Number Two single 'What's My Name', by Rihanna featuring Drake, by over 300,000 copies.

The highest new entry in the singles chart today is 'Surfin' Bird' by The Trashmen, which sold just under 70,000 copies. The track made the charts as part a Facebook campaign aiming to stop X Factor from reaching the Number One spot. A separate Facebook campaign to get John Cage's silent song '4:33' to the top of the charts only managed to reach Number 21.

Meanwhile, Biffy Clyro's original 'Many Of Horror' sold around 40,000 copies to go into this week's singles chart at Number Eight.

Speaking in the run up to the chart results being announced, Cardle asked Biffy Clyro fans to "give me a break" for his cover of the track, after it received a mixed reaction. Meanwhile, Biffy Clyro's drummer Ben Johnston said he finds the cover "funny".

In the UK albums chart, Take That spend another week at Number One with 'Progress'.
