Dolores Hope has died at the age of 102.

The singer, who was married to comedian Bob Hope for over 69 years, died of natural causes at her home in Palm Springs, California, on Monday (September 19).

Dolores Reade, as she was then known, met her husband while singing in a nightclub in 1933 and went on to accompany him on wartime trips to entertain US troops.

After they were married, the Hopes adopted four children, with Dolores scaling back her singing commitments after this, she did however continue to perform for troops when on tour with her husband.

In 1990, during a concert in Saudi Arabia for soldiers taking part in Operation Desert Storm, she was the only female entertainer to sing, and released her first album, 'Dolores Hope: Now And Then', when she was 83.

Bob Hope died in 2003 when he was 100.

"Both the entertainment world and the church have lost a woman of profound faith, gifted musical talent and dedication" Los Angeles Archbishop Jose H Gomez told BBC News. "The death of Dolores Hope leaves a huge void in southern California," he added.
