MARR FOLKS UP!

Ex-SMITHS guitarist JOHNNY MARR and BILLY BRAGG are confirmed to present gongs at this year's annual BBC RADIO 2 FOLK AWARDS.

In addition to Marr and Bragg, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport Chris Smith will also be presenting awards. The evening will be hosted by comedian Mike Harding, and live performances will come from folk icons Mary Black, Taj Mahal, The Copper Family, Blazing Fiddles and John Tams.

Marr's love of folk has been documented before, having appeared as a guest on the former Pentangle guitarist Bert Jansch's recent album, 'Crimson Moon'. It is thought this is also the reason Marr has been invited to present an award.

This year's awards take place at the Cumberland Hotel in central London on February 5.
