Cro-Mags founder Harley Flanagan allegedly attacks current members
Former bassist Harley Flanagan is believed to have been arrested after allegedly attacking three members of Cro-Mags before a gig
The incident allegedly took place at 8.30pm last night (July 6) in the VIP room at New York City's Webster Hall, where Cro-Mags were due to perform as part of the first CGBG Festival. Flanagan, who last played bass for the hardcore punk band in 2002, is reported to have appeared brandishing a knife, before allegedly stabbing his replacement Mike "The Gook" Couls and allegedly biting two other members.
According to the New York Post, Flanagan was arrested at the scene and the injured band members were taken to a nearby hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
CBGB Festival organisers cancelled the gig immediately and released a statement saying: "Our primary concern is always the safety and experience of New Yorkers, music fans and the general public. We don't feel the actions of one person should overshadow four amazing days and nights of events."
Meanwhile, Idioteq has reported that Cro-Mags posted the following statement on their Facebook page shortly after the incident: "We are all okay. I guess when you’re a racist with a swatstika tattoo and your wife leaves you for a black man and no one will play music with you because of YOUR shitty attitude Mr Flanagan – you resort to ruining shit for everyone by stabbing your replacement. Cro-Mags will make up the show with S.O.A.I. We apologize. PMA always wins!" However, the post now appears to have been removed.
The inaugural CBGB Festival - named in honour of the legendary New York City music venue, now defunct - began on Thursday (July 5) and will continue at various venues across the city until its planned conclusion tomorrow (July 8).
