The Last Party, a new band from Manchester, have persuaded actor Idris Elba to direct their next music video.

The Hollywood actor, who has appeared in films such as Prometheus and Thor as well as TV series Luther and The Wire, met The Last Party backstage at London clubnight This Feeling last Saturday and was soon discussing the possibility of directing the band's next video.

Speaking to NME about meeting and working with Elba, Liam Manton of the band said: "We told him our first video for debut single 'Bonnie & Clyde' was an anti-talent show statement, our second video which we were in London for was a satire of botox culture all done with no budget, just the input of like minded individuals. He was impressed and offered to direct our next video, which was immense news, but our response was "We'd love to do something, but we've already promised it Northern Lads Productions. They helped us out majorly with this project and we don't want to let our mates down but why don't we do a collaboration, you could direct it with their new production company?"

"So i shouted over Nicky Bell from Northern Lads Productions who travelled down to London with us (by this time was slumped in a corner with a towel on his head) - he told Idris the story of Northern Lads and how they're seven local mates who have just set up a media production company and we all got talking and bouncing ideas about."

Asked if he was a fan of Elba's work prior to meeting him, Manton said: "It's funny, you know, because all we watch on the bus is The Wire and the American version of The Office and he's been in both."

The Last Party have previously shot a music video for their single 'Devil's Lips' which stars actors from Shameless and This Is Englandand acts as a satire of WAG culture. The band are currently deciding which song they will release next with Elba on board to direct the accompanying music video.

Meanwhile, The Last Party play This Feeling at Manchester's FAC251 tomorrow night (February 16).
