Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is set to make a guest appearance on American sketch comedy Portlandia when it returns for a fourth season next year.

The show, which is written and performed by Sleater-Kinney and Wild Flag singer Carrie Browstein and ex-Saturday Night Live regular Fred Armisen, takes a satirical look at the hipster neighbourhood of Portland and the various characters that inhabit the area.

Previous musical guest appearances on the show have been provided by the likes of James Mercer of The Shins, Jenny Conlee and Colin Meloy of The Decemberists, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, St. Vincent, Joanna Newsom and Johnny Marr. Meanwhile, as well as Josh Homme, Season Four of the show has also confirmed cameos from TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.

Homme’s forthcoming Portlandia spot won’t be the first time the Queens of the Stone Age man has turned his hand to acting. Earlier this year, Homme starred in a spoof Star Wars audition tape for Youtube comedy channel Stinky Mike during which he auditioned for the role of R2-D2. During his audition, Homme describes himself as a “gigantic Star Wars fan - physically, mentally and sexually” and also attempts an R2-D2 impression while dressed in a cardboard robot outfit.

Queens of the Stone Age’s ‘…Like Clockwork’, meanwhile, was recently placed at #3 on NME’s albums of 2013 list behind Arctic Monkeys’ ‘AM’ and Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ and was also voted in at #3 on the reader’s poll behind ‘AM’ and Foals’ ‘Holy Fire’.

Season Four of Portlandia will premier in the US on February 27, 2014.
