No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani: ‘Our new album is a series of accidents and mistakes’

'We don't know what we're doing,' admits singer

No Doubt‘s Gwen Stefani has admitted that the band’s forthcoming new album ‘Push And Shove’ is a “series of accidents and mistakes”.

In an interview with MTV, the singer claimed she and her bandmates had had no idea what they were doing in the studio or how they wanted the LP, which is their first record together in over 10 years, to sound.

Speaking about the process behind the album, the frontwoman said:

We don’t know what we’re doing. Everything’s basically a series of accidents and mistakes.

Bassist Tony Kanal, meanwhile, added: “I think if something inspires us, we go with it, we know when it’s working and we just kind of run with it. It seems to work for us.”

Earlier this month (September 7), Stefani insisted that she never wanted to make another solo album and was pleased to be recording music with No Doubt again. Despite releasing two high-profile records on her own during the band’s absence, she revealed: “I never need to do that or want to do it again. I’m happy being in No Doubt. And it’s nice to have a record where there’s no fat on it.”

‘Push And Shove’, which is No Doubt’s sixth studio album and their first since 2001’s ‘Rock Steady’, will be released on September 24. You can watch the video for their new single ‘Settle Down’ by scrolling down and clicking below.
